14th August - There was a classic duel in the KCA 12 hour event this year, with prolific winner in Kent during 2005, Garry Banfield (Kent Cycles RT), and Surrey rider (but also a frequent visitor to Kent events this year) Keith Coffey (Bec CC). Banfield eventually finished just 0.275 miles ahead of Coffey with a fine total of 259.578 miles on what was a far from easy day. Leader at 50 miles, Gary Chalkley (Kent Cycles RT) finished a strong third in 253.133 miles. Click here for full result
31st July - Just back from guiding Lance Armstrong to his 7th Tour de France victory, Sean Yates (In Gear Quickvit RT) showed he's lost little of his own formidable speed by winning the De Laune '25' on Sunday 31st July by the impressive margin of 2.27 over Paul Burrows (Thanet RC) and in doing so took nearly half a minute off the course record with his 53.14 for the Molash/Chilham course. New '25' course on Thanet Way A new course has been designed in East Kent to replace the existing Q25/11, which many felt to have shortcomings in terms of safety. The new Q25/10 will start on the A28 between Sarre and the St. Nicholas at Wade roundabout. Riders take first exit at the roundabout and follow the A299 westwards to the Broomfield interchange where, through a series of left turns at the two feeder roundabouts, emerge back on to the A299 eastbound, where they take the first slip road left (Reculver), and carry on to re-emerge on the A299. At the next roundabout (St. Nicholas at Wade), riders take 1st exit left onto the minor road to Potten Street, then second left to cross bridge over A299, left again to enter slip road back on to A299 westbound. The leg to Broomfield and return is then repeated, also the section of minor road to Potten Street, to the finish just after crossing the bridge over the A299 for the second time, on the outskirts of St.Nicholas at Wade village. The district committee feels that in terms of safety, this course is a big step forward from the old A299, as nowhere on the course do riders have to cross the flow of traffic (all turns are left handed). In practical terms, the number of marshals needed is also reduced so presents less headaches for promoters. It remains in our view a potentially 'quick' course on the right day but that quality does not come coupled with exposure of riders to unnecessary hazards. The South East District committee is constantly reviewing all of the courses in the district - traffic levels are increasing everywhere and new houses/business parks are appearing all the time - this new course is a result of that review process. If anyone has any queries regarding this or any of the courses in our district, please do not hesitate to contact us. |
